SparkCharge came to Buffalo last year after winning the $1 million grand prize in the 43North business competition. The company is poised to further solidify its presence here after completing a $3.3 million round of private financing.
The startup – which splits operations between Buffalo and Toronto – announced that it has raised a $7 million round of venture capital. The money will support heavy demand not just in health care but also food processing, biotechnology, hospitality and corporate offices.

43North Y4 portfolio company Squire announced a Series C raise of nearly $60 million at a $250 million valuation, nearly triple the company’s valuation of its June 2020 Series B raise. The seven prize winners – six of whom are from out of town – have formed connections with each other and have made contacts in the local business and academic worlds, thanks to introductions by 43North.
43North – the business competition and incubator – has moved its staff members and portfolio companies into newly renovated space on the 24th floor of Seneca One Tower. That includes seven new 43North companies – the winners of prize money in its annual competition last October – and 11 companies that won 43North prizes in recent years.
